Sweet and sour spring onions with maple syrup and orange are a side dish full of healthy properties. In fact, spring onions are as rich in minerals and vitamin C as orange, and maple syrup is a source of valuable nutrients. Ideal for a healthy diet that also focuses on taste.

 

Sweet and sour spring onions with maple syrup

Ingredients

  • 500 g onions borettane (already peeled)
  • 1 untreated organic orange
  • 3 tablespoons of MapleFarm Pure Maple Syrup – Very Dark
  • 1 sprig of rosemary
  • 1 hot pepper
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • salt

Instructions

  • Wash and blanch spring onions borettane for 3′ minutes in lightly salted boiling water.
  • Drain and transfer to a skillet with a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, the hot pepper and rosemary.
  • Brown over medium heat for at least 5/6′ minutes, turning them often with a spoon and being careful not to break them.
  • Add the maple syrup and juice of half an orange, season with salt, lower the heat and continue cooking for 8/10′ adding a little water in case the bottom gets too dry.
  • When cooked, remove the rosemary and chili pepper and add the remaining half orange cut into small wedges.
  • Spring onions are great either served piping hot or at room temperature.
